Happy Birthday Dad,
At the time, I couldn't have imagined that our family sailing holiday in Scotland would have provided the formative experience for me taking part in the Clipper Race, but now that we have been heeling on a port tack for the first few days of the second leg, I can clearly remember the Fairways Fisher we hired and how its bilge keel and cabin had probably never seen action like it when you allowed me to helm during that stormy week on the west coast.
And Mum, I don't want you to think that you are blameless in this adventure, those early experiences on boats, coupled with spending my childhood summers up to my neck in Anglesey sea water has surely been the perfect preparation for putting on cold, wet foulies. I am on the first part of the night watch as we continue to head south, knowing that we should pick up westerly winds soon - I can't help but wonder if the Captain and crew of Skelwith took this route too.
Dad, have a great day. Hopefully by now you will have received the birthday card that Amy from the Clipper Race team kindly agreed to post for me. Thank you for everything you have done to support me with this race.
