Repeat Offenders

Like some shoplifter who never learns his lesson Derek and I are back again for our fourth inclusion on the Clipper Race. We are always asked why we keep coming back and the initial answer always is “why not”. And “why not. It’s fun”. Each crew we join we learn new skills in putting up with crazy loons. My misses gets a well-earned break. The Clipper Race Office staff get to groan at the sight of us appearing again. We get a new set of foulies. We get to learn more stuff about sailing, oceans, weather systems. Drain our Skipper with constant questions. We step outside of our comfort zone and that's where the magic happens.
So today has seen a turn in fortune for the Hotel CV21. The builders have been in and adjusted the foundations. Life has gone from a Leaning Tower Pisa to a more comfortable Spanish hotel waiting to be finished. The plumbing is still the same. Different on-suite bathrooms work differently depending on which side the hotel is listing. The kitchen staff seem to be constantly getting fired as there is never the same two each day on. The food is passable. Just. The business meeting room is a modern open plan, cosmopolitan type of an affair. If not a little windy and wet. The business plan presentation is yet to be screened via the projector pointed at the large white board.
But on the plus side. The various reps from the many different branches of the CV21 company are gelling together well. Making the best of a bad hotel job is the mantra. The day shift are sharing their room with the night shift without complaint or discord. No squabbles have ensued over the rights to the sun loungers poolside. Parking spaces are free and never an issue.
So why wouldn’t we come back time and time again? It may seem strange. But a stranger is only a friend that you have never met before. So look at the sales brochure. Speak with Della the holiday rep. And sign up for next season. There must be a good reason we keep coming back. Surely we cant be that CRAZY?
