Having sailed halfway around the world, this is Jerome's first blog, in the form of an under the floorboards interview.
Q: Jerome, why haven't you written any blogs
A: Because nobody's going to read it - most of my family only speaks French (Jerome's originally from Guadaloupe).
Q: What do you prefer, Jacqueline's pancakes or Harpo's steak dinner?
A: Pancakes - worth waiting for.
Q: Which crew member would you choose to be and why?
A: Anne Tremeau as she's inspiring: learning English and doing Clipper... and a little crazy :)
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: Co-founder of the school of movements/speech with Jacqueline Kavanaugh.
Q: Favourite on-board role?
A: Deckie, because you get to do everything.
Q: Best stopover so far?
A: Cape Town. Scenery, culture, location of the marina, inexpensive food, good fun.
Q: What are you currently watching?
A: Vikings - Fighting and fornicating.
Q: Book recommendation?
A: The Tipping Point - Malcolm Gladwell
Q: When did you start sailing?
A: When I registered with Clipper, prior to that I was mainly ballast.
Q: Favourite place to hangout on board?
A: Saloon, close to food and laughs. Can jump on deck or to your bunk a strategic position.
Q: What's the worst thing about living on a boat in a hot climate / in a cold climate?
A: Constant sweating, having to go to the heads when wearing so many layers.
Q: At any point have you said screw this?
A: Day 2 of Race 1, in the English Channel, beating like mad, had to put in Reef 2 and fell from the mast.
Q: Easiest way to piss off the skipper?
A: Fail to repeat the order using your boat voice while hoisting a Spinnaker in a strong wind.
Q: What are your plans after this?
A: Still to be defined. Find somewhere to live.
Q: Words to live by?
A: Stroke the cat.
