Oh dear, the Bashi Bashi strait has bashed the seasick patches right off Ivan's head and I am, as threatened, flying solo in the galley whilst he wrestles with the green monster. The boat is heeled over properly now, which carries the expected gymnastic challenges, but we are also hitting the occasional wave head on, lifting the boat and suspending everyone/thing on it in mid-air for a second. You can’t see it coming, just every minute or so, we become suddenly weightless followed by suddenly having walls as floors again. So, although you take-off from the floor, you may 'land' on the wall... sideways on. Fun for the first five minutes and after that it moves swiftly into Burkes' law of 'type 2 fun' (fun-with-hindsight).

I have now learned not to even comment about this type of sea state, it will quickly be doused by 'You should have seen the waves on Leg 2'. When someone falls out of their bunk, it's 'You should have seen Sam on Leg 2'. When the water coming out of the bilges is measured in 5 buckets per hour, 'We had 10 on Leg 2'. And even, when we are stuck in a windhole... 'Remember the windhole coming into Cape Town?' (Yep, Leg 2 again.)

As the crew move on to Leg 6, nicknamed 'Voldemort' I hope that the worst remains behind on Leg 2. And that, as they approach the Panama Canal on Leg 7, they say 'Hot?! You should have been on Leg 5!'

With love to Turk and the mini-Turks, Didi/Mum

PS. To Hanneke, Ivan is alright now, a quick stint on the helm, with the horizon in sight, brings him round quickly, just no good in the hot and bouncy galley.
