Hatches are firmly open airing the below deck, whenever it’s possible to avoid the rain from squalls. Gary even rigged an awesome ‘A/C unit’ from a sail bag to catch the wind and funnel it through the quarters. With boobies (we think) circling around our bow, we imagined one being sucked through the A/C, traversing the sleeping ghetto, and popping out the other end!
Supporters, we have not had satellite communication available to crew since the boat Wi-Fi fried as a result of the lightning strike. Rest assured we are all well, and jubilant from achieving a great result on this race. Our thoughts now turn to boat maintenance in preparation for the next race, and the shore-based activities to come. We are starting to see distant mountains as we motor-sail.
I have just had a chat with Josh comparing Leg 5 (Australia to the Philippines) and this Leg 7. These Legs are said to be similar. I have preferred this Leg as the wind holes have been fewer, the heat not quite as intense, and I am better prepared and experienced. There is much hilarity, from debating the re-constitutional rights of dried blueberries, to teaching Muriel important catchphrases which she ‘Murialises’, such as: “You snooze – you fail!”
A special shout out to Ally, Elyse and Freya. Shalom and kisses to Ian and Ruth, from Amira. X
Hatch open!
