Race 7 - Day 23
Crew Diary - Whitsundays to Da Nang, Vietnam
11 February
Greetings from good ship IchorCoal.
All good to report here! Yesterday we changed from
downwind sailing to upwind sailing. At our daily midday meeting two
days ago-skipper had us prepped for banging up wind conditions - seasickness
tablets to be started for those who suffer, personal belongings stowed away and
organised, anything to make life a little easier at a 45 degree angle!
So we did experience around 12 hours of relatively angled weather but we were
woken up for night watch last night to surprisingly calm upwind conditions!
Surprise which was gladly welcomed by all, tiredness is setting in now-wake up
has nearly to be done twice -a lot of the time first wake up is completely
forgotten even if there was a conversation had!
Dreams of air conditioned rooms, big soft comfy beds, showers minus the salt,
clean soft hair, clean clothes and salad are being dreamt by all! When asked
the question-what food are you most looking forward to in Da Nang? - a big bowl
of crunchy fresh salad is a very popular response, followed by the usual suspects,
steak and all the wonderful foodie delicacies that Da Nang will have to offer!
No freeze dried meats, TVP, or dehydrated veggies that's for sure! Menus have
been slightly altered (supposed to be patatas bravas for
Dinner - spud blight has hit GSI!) fresh food has run
out (minus six lemons) but all the same it sounds like we will have some tasty
dishes today - tuna nicoise wraps for lunch and pasta carbonara - yes with some
fresh ham- what a treat and its the first time that we are having it! Time to
tack up on deck - gotta go and be 'ready'! Never a dull moment! Plenty of
vessels and oil rigs - even if we did pass by the same one twice!
Love to all at home, looking forward to chatting soon,
not long now!
P.S. - there has been a new addition to the toast
order-butter, peanut butter and marmite. I also may have forgotten
one other as well toast with just Nutellla!
Love IchorCoal
