Before I begin with Leg 3 and the Southern Ocean, I just wanted to say a few words about the enthusiastic and warm welcome we received on our arrival in Cape Town. Many, many thanks to the volunteers and members of the Clipper Race team who got the boat turned around so quickly and allowed the crew to get some valuable rest. It was great to see my wife there to welcome us as well. It was her first contact with the Clipper Race and I think she gained a greater appreciation for the endeavour after having had a chance to see the whole organisation and especially after meeting the rest of crew.

Leg 3, which is one of the main reasons that I signed up for three legs, has given some immediate thrills and hardships. We had a brilliant start with the whole crew and our new skipper Matt to get around the marks with some really great match racing moments, especially on last mark where we turned the second to last mark within a boat length with Qingdao and HotelPlanner.com and came just ahead. After forty eight hours of light sailing, we got our first real test with thirty six hours of heavy wind and seas on the nose where, once again, the crew and boat handled themselves wonderfully. We are now with our Code Two enjoying some sunny champagne sailing in second place, for now. FORZA PSP
