A snapshot of life and personalities onboard Punta del Este

So as I write we are bobbing about on the water doing 2 knots. This is in direct contrast to the beginning of the race where our faces were squashed on the heads wall on visits to the bathroom. Today I am going to give you a snapshot of life and personalities on board. Andrew, our sailmaker, is sitting opposite me, sewing up his docksiders, the persistent glueing over the last couple of months having failed miserably. Graham has just appeared down for a healthy orange and Mary who gets restless when nothing much is happening on deck is back down in the galley making a fifth cup of tea for everyone. She is currently getting the hot water temperature exactly right for the usually easy to please Dario, who turns into a complete princess when it comes to the water temperature for his ‘mate’ (a herbal tea drunk from a wooden bowl with a metal straw which is a ritual drink for the South Americans). Ryan is out for the count in the sail locker having put in more hours than is humanly possible.

Nige is sitting next to me munching on a well deserved packet of crisps, having produced a fantastic breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast. Terri, you will be pleased to hear that he is also planning rice pudding as a treat. No excuses when he gets home!

Andres, our resident grasshopper, who is on mother watch with Nige, has burnt himself out and gone for a rest. Andres does everything at 100 miles an hour and has more energy than the whole of the boat put together! Maybe with the exception of Jeronimo, our resident locomotive who just keeps going regardless.

Jose is the cool dude on the boat. He is currently sitting opposite me fast asleep, perfectly upright, with his shades still on!
