The Race of Your Life

I feel very fortunate to be able to take part in the Clipper Race from London to Punta del Este.

The idea of racing across the Atlantic with a team of 24 sailors, with the same objectives and challenges is a dream come true. It’s obviously very motivating after winning the first race from London to Portimão.

Today, day six, after leaving Portimão, it puts us in the middle of the pack. Keeping in mind that this is a marathon sailing race, we feel very comfortable as the leaders are not too far away. We basically decided to sail through the Canary Islands, when the boats in front of us decided to go near the African Continent. The key will be to keep working as a team to maintain a good speed, avoid making mistakes, and selecting the correct strategy route to reach Punta del Este.

The living quarters are small, considering there is a team of 24 sailors. The respect we have for each other is crucial in maintaining the living conditions in a good state. An orderly and clean boat makes living conditions much easier and enjoyable. The opposite would be unimaginable.

Throughout the few days we have been sailing, we have been fortunate to see many exciting things, like a meteorite disintegrating as it enters the earth’s orbit, a sky full of millions of stars, moving satellites, a pod of 40-50 dolphins jumping along our boat for about 20 minutes, flying fish and squid landing on our boat during the night, whales have been spotted from a distance exhaling water.

Expect new exciting encounters as we enter the doldrums in the next four days, as a cyclone will be passing just in front of us.

In conclusion, I am truly enjoying the race of my life!
