Body of blog: As we left the hedonistic delights of Arlie Beach the floating Coral spores served as a reminder that nature is in charge really, and so this theme continues

Light winds serve to frustrate any concerted attempt at sailing and I am sure all boats continue to monitor for any signs of pressure.Nature is all around us. A single shift produced two birds wanting a lift, leaping tuna, flying fish flying and a close encounter with a curious whale. Is it a coincidence that all this happened after a Rich Tea biscuit found itself in the sea ?

We hear today of events in China and I am sure all will join me in sending our thoughts and condolences to all those affected. Whatever the effect, the situation has become another tale to tell for us, a minor inconvenience in the context of our lives, life changing for many.

We all remain extremely privileged to have the ability to choose to join the Clipper Race, whatever our personal motivation. Many do not have such a choice.

As a new crew member of Qingdao I was eager to determine what was making the boat successful. The answer it transpires, would have taken a while to guess. Bananas, custard and cake at 3am under a complete canopy of stars is right up there in the great memories folder and clearly a key part of race strategy.

As we all bob around in the Doldrums playing an expensive version of poo sticks then I am sure those of a certain age will agree with me that ‘It ain’t half hot mum’

See you later sensation seekers.
