My name is Yaqi. I am from Qingdao, China, and I am sailing from Punta del Este in Uruguay to Cape Town on the Qingdao Clipper Race boat.

I have experienced precious experiences whilst on board and cherish everything so far, except the first two days of seasickness.

Whilst on land, I took for granted normal luxuries that are not on our boat, like toilets, beds, and a comfortable environment. Clothes are not important, except to keep warm or dry, which is so important on a boat. I also can walk normally on land, but not on the boat, as everything around me is moving up and down constantly.

We don't have many of my normal foods like meat and fruit on the boat, but I enjoy trying new British foods like the hot chocolate.

I have seen beautiful skies full of stars and plankton glowing in the sea water at night.

The sailing is good and I enjoy operating the winches and taking beautiful photos. We are a good family on board and everyone becomes a better sailor every day.

I am looking forward to being stronger psychologically and a better sailor after this trip to South Africa.
