The Problem of Lunch and Wraps.

So, in our three-watch system the ‘lucky’ thing is you get to do the same thing on ‘support’ watch each day. There are 6x4 hour support watches which are done by half of your watch when you come off deck. This means you either have a cleaning watch or a preparing food watch. So, for Baz and I this race we’re on lunch. The victualer has already prepared a menu with what should be for lunch.

So, the lunch menu looks something like:

  • day 1 x wrap
  • day 2 y wrap
  • day 3 z wrap and so on.

When someone asks what is for lunch and I say x wraps I am usually met by ‘what wraps again’.

So today the menu says 4 bean mix and cheese wraps. Yet there have been two tins of 4 bean mix put in the day bag, not enough clearly for 17 crew. Fortunately, there seem to be tin of other things left over in the galley and a couple cucumbers seem to be going spare (there having been not much in the way of fresh food for this trip).

So lunch becomes beans corn and chickpea salad with Baz’s special Italian dressing, plus optional grated cheddar cheese and optional wrap, followed by freshly prepared date loaf. And two thirds of the crew are happy to not have to have wraps.

On Visit Sanya we entered the Dell Latitude Rugged Ocean Sprint just after 0700 UTC and Zhuhai entered it about 12 ½ minutes later. Our 0800-watch pulled away from them for majority of the time but toward the end they seem to be coming back at us and continue to do so. 3.6 miles vs 12.5 minutes going to be a close call and we seem to have closed our distance on Punta del Este which has just appeared on AIS having been much further ahead of us previously. Going to be a close call amongst our nearest rivals but it seems that we may be in with a chance for some bonus points. Who would have thought nine boats would go for the same sprint.

The monsoon conditions seem to have relented a little and things today are looking pretty pleasant on deck for our upcoming sunset watch.
