Today, we had a mixture of bumpy and fairly steady seas so helming was a little more stable/ accurate (? !) for everyone. There were some dark clouds but we’ve seen very little rain.

We’re now heading up the east side of the chain of small Japanese Nansei islands. They’re all lit up brightly against the black sky, clearly inhabited, and very different to the Taiwanese islands we sailed past yesterday. A stark reminder that there is an outside world beyond our floating home.

We hope to have scored a point or two in the ocean sprint today and are now heading further up and will pass round the Nansei islands before commencing our southerly route back to Subic Bay.

The bread yesterday wasn’t my best, a little under baked, partly because my watch and the galley clock both stopped working around the same time so I lost track of the time and didn’t do the ‘tapping bottom’ test (too tired at 6 am after no sleep). Tonight, both watch and clock are working again so I have no excuse. We were going to try to make some kind of chelsea buns for a change today, but with addable ingredients limited to a few peanuts, cinnamon, jam, pringles and vegemite (marmite might have worked?) we have resorted to bread loaves again.

Clyde made Seumus a cup full of custard tonight. Apparently Clyde used to make custard when his parents went out and now he does it when his kids go out. Seumus just likes custard so he is very happy too!
