Hi everyone,

I can say with some uncertainty that in all probability this will be the last crew blog of Race 14, the Atlantic Crossing. A lot has happened since I personally last posted. The race extension into stormy weather has been a real challenge. Waves have been 5-6m in height, winds have been between 30-40kts in strength, sleeping has been difficult (thank goodness for lee cloths!), moving around is really hard having to prop yourself up with every spare appendage on every available surface (my head comes in handy to fix firmly against a wall whilst I try to dress at a 45 degree angle) and nothing remains where you put it down. I can’t count how many times I’ve put either my gloves, shoe or hat down to find it gone only seconds later gleefully sliding along the passageway or across the galley. It’s been tough but it is nearly over.

I achieved another ‘Over 20 Club’ speed today at around 1100 with a speed of 20.6 knots, my fourth. I also wore my ‘full yellows’ last night and again today as the weather and crashing waves over the boat meant being soaked and cold. If I didn’t, it really was the time to put them on, and I’m glad I did. We are crossing the finish line tomorrow and berthing sometime after, and that will see a ‘bucket list’ item ticked off for me – crossing The Atlantic Ocean. I’ve reminded myself every day that I’ve wanted to do this for some time, and it’s that determination that’s helped me through. I’m so looking forward to a peaceful, still night sleep in Derry, Londonderry and a visit to the pub for some pub grub, that for me will be bliss. That’s tomorrow night, so close now.

Best wishes from all the crew aboard Visit Sanya, China.
