Nearly Over

By Kiwi (Keith) Williams

Yes that’s right my Clipper Race Adventure is ‘nearly over’ - Fremantle is the last stop in this three year adventure, which started when I signed up back in September 2016 as around the worlder for the 17/18 race, unfortunately I had a few mishaps along the way meaning I missed the first three legs and so rejoined the race in Fremantle and on the Unicef boat to Liverpool.

So to complete my round the world trip I joined Unicef for Legs 1, 2 and 3 in this race 2019-20 – so when we finally get to Fremantle I would have sailed around the world – done and dusted.

Was hoping that we would arrive in time for my birthday which is the last day of the arrival window and Prize giving night, but looks like it is not to be – so hoping that the guys in Fremantle have a few for me and this crazy bunch of crew members.

So what has happened to me and seen in those three plus years – basically the following:

  • Six fractured ribs
  • Four skippers
  • Three boats
  • Three years to making
  • Two Clipper Race events
  • One shipwreck
  • Over 40,000nm (ocean racing miles)
  • Heaps of new friends (Clipper Race Staff and fellow race crew)
  • Heaps of laughs
  • Amazing sunsets and sunrises
  • Dolphins, Whales, Shark, seals, birds, turtles.
  • Travelled through the Panama Canal
  • Visited some cool stopovers
  • Seen too much rubbish in our oceans

Thanks to everyone for all their support, making it happen, the laughs, allowing me to do this amazing trip, putting up with my highs and lows, for just being there and reading my blogs and facebook postings.

Oh yes and happy 20th to my youngest for the 07 December
