Good Morning to all Team Unicef Supporters,

I have just joined Unicef for Legs 5 and 6 and have been settling into life onboard the big blue boat as we race towards Sanya in China. It’s been a fairly slow start to the race but this has allowed me to adjust to life onboard. The first 48 hours were spent motoring out to the race start beyond the Great Barrier Reef and we were all glad to get the race started after the further delay to the start due to the lack of wind

So far It’s been extremely hot and below deck it has been like living in a sweat box. Already I know that the world renowned Clipper weight loss program is working a treat for me. It has been cooler on deck at night though and the breeze has brought some welcome relief. Over the last 24 hours we have been racing in view of a number of the other boats in the fleet and this has kept us motivated to sail Unicef as fast as we can in these light wind conditions.

I am writing this blog midway through my mother watch duty with my crew mate, Aser and today we have served up porridge, fresh bread for breakfast and a pasta salad for lunch. We have also kept the on deck crew refreshed with drinks and fruit. We are in the process of preparing tonight’s meal so I am kept very busy but I am looking forward to the extra long sleep tonight which is a real reward after being on the go all day. The forecast is for more light wind so it’s going to be interesting to see how this race develops in the next 48 hours. So far it’s been a gentle introduction to the Clipper Race but I know I will experience much more in the coming months. Life is good onboard!

A big hello to Sharon, Lauren and Kate and all my friends and family.
