Finally last evening we picked up more wind. We had a beautiful full moon whilst sailing, which made me so happy as it reminded me of my home in Zanzibar where I enjoy sailing under the light of the full moon … and the weather was perfect!!

Today, so far, has been a great sailing day. Yesterday we achieved a daily total of 90nm but I hope today we are able to hit our average daily miles target, of 180nm. It seems now that the crew are getting to know each other much better, compared to our first leg of sailing. We have been supporting each other in daily tasks, as well as helming Zhuhai. The Skipper and First Mate have enabled us all to take it in turns to helm, which has given everyone an opportunity to experience this amazing racing boat. We have a ‘happy hour’ meeting at 12.00 everyday, which is improving our communication for doing better as a team and gives everyone an opportunity to share any ideas or thoughts and to get an update from the Skipper which motivates everyone.

I am feeling very positive about this race so far. Two years ago it never crossed my mind that I would have an opportunity to participate in such a race. To be part of it now it gives me such pleasure and satisfaction, being the first Zanzibarian Tanzanian person to do full circumnavigation. I hope it will bring sailing to the attention and motivate the next generations in Tanzania, where we have the ideal geographical location for this wonderful sport.
