‘LegenDerry’ Scoring Gate victory

Derry~Londonderry~Doire is the first entry to cross the Scoring Gate during Race 2 to Rio de Janeiro. The Northern Irish Derry~Londonderry~Doire entry crossed the line at 11.17 UTC  winning a valuable 3 points as the entry continues to extend its lead in the race.

Henri Lloyd crossed the line in second place at 1203 UTC with Mission performance chasing their tail in third place at 1445UTC winning 3, 2, 1 points retrospectively.

The Scoring Gate lies between Scoring Gate 1 west at position 19 degrees north and  26 degrees west and Scoring Gate 1 east at position 19 degrees north and 23 degrees west which you can see pinpointed on the (Race Viewer).

The skippers were asked to record the GPS time (Universal Time) of crossing the Scoring Gate and email the race office with these timings within 12 hours. The results at this stage are still provisional until verified by the Race Committee.

With the competition heating up and the uncertainty of the Doldrums looming, the rest of the fleet will also have the chance to score some valuable extra points in Race 2 with an Ocean Sprint.

The Ocean Sprint shall be between the lines of latitude 5 degrees south and 10 degrees south. Skippers shall record the GPS time (Universal Time) of crossing each of these lines of latitudes. These timings will be emailed to the race office soon after crossing each of the relevant lines of latitude. The photographs from the Ocean Sprint winner will be checked at the next stopover as a matter of course and the yacht with the shortest elapsed time for the Ocean Sprint will be awarded 2 points.
