BRAND AWARENESS IN PACIFIC NORTHWEST

Bodega Garźon is a Team Supporter of the Punta del Este yacht and has activated in multiple Host Ports on the Clipper Race global route. Naturally the Uruguayan wine producer hosted and was part of many events during the Punta del Este stopover, but has also showcased wines in Cape Town when the Uruguayan Ambassador greeted its team in the South African city.

Mele Sosa, the Enologist and Wine Educator for Bodega Garźon, hosted a sail day for its wine distributors on board Punta del Este during the Seattle stopover. It was a chance for Mele to meet the intrepid sailors who represent her home country as they sail around the world, and for her guests to sample the Bodega Garźon range of award winning wines, with the unique backdrop of a Clipper 70 ocean racing yacht. Mele was joined in Seattle by Uruguay’s Deputy Consul General, Fiorella Fabra, who was there to promote Uruguay and the trade and investment opportunities within the country.

On why Bodega Garźon partners with the Clipper Race, Mele said: “It has been very important for Bodega Garźon to partner with global events such as the Clipper Race, because we are a winery from a small country and one not known for wine. So Bodega Garźon put Uruguay on the map. Events like the Clipper Race, that go round the world, bring our brand and our wine to new audiences and that’s important.

“Spending the day on the yacht with the Punta del Este crew was amazing, getting to know people from all over the world and hearing their stories. We shared moments and felt connected, they are all now ambassadors of Bodega Garźon. They love our wines. Wine connects people just like water and the ocean.”

Mele also joined an all female panel discussing sustainability in business at the Clipper Connect Business Series event, commenting after the event “I want to see more women, more women in wine, in business. It was empowering today to be part of an all female panel with industry experts, and hearing from Hannah, the AQP on Seattle was inspirational.

“I have immense pride in seeing the Punta del Este Yacht entry here. We are a small country, but with the Clipper Race we are positioned on a global scale. We are leaders in many things, as a business Bodega Garźon was the first LEED certified sustainable winery outside of North America, and as a country, Uruguay generates over 98 percent of all electricity from renewable sources, primarily wind and hydropower. It's important I had the opportunity to give my country and business a voice in such a prominent and important topic. I will never forget today.”
