LAUNCH: Clipper Connect Business Series
The evening was a joint event between Clipper Venture’s official business club: Clipper Connect and Liverpool city’s Mayoral 100 Club, a business initiative supporting Liverpool’s cultural events programme.
The first event in the new Clipper Connect Business Series, which will be a regular feature on the race route, was themed around Global Connections in which the aim was to highlight Liverpool from different perspectives in support of their Commonwealth Games 2022 bid.
The
focus of the event was a panel session featuring Ralph Morton, Executive Director
Seattle Sports Commission; Wendy Simon, Cabinet Member for Culture Tourism and
Events - Liverpool City Council; Max Steinberg, Chief Executive Liverpool
Vision (Mayor of Liverpool’s economic development company); and Sir Robin
Knox-Johnston.
The panel were asked questions around cities being recognised as brands in
their own right, business and trade alongside sporting events, how cities can
use events such as the Clipper Race to evolve, and how hosting major events can
change the face of a city.
When the panel discussion wrapped up, to reinforce the international nature of the Clipper Race, we invited panellists and guests to participate in a traditional Uruguayan sweet making and tea ceremony, which historically is used to strengthen connections.
