The past 24 hours have been very trying and required a lot of patience. Fickle winds are dominating the English Channel, turning this race into a bit of a lottery. The fleet is very closely bunched drifting around in the tide. The passing ships are of the biggest concern at the moment. There are many, and we can’t get out of the way, not to mention pea soup fog. It is about to change for a foul tide with still 30 miles to go to the Channel Islands. To anchor, or not to anchor in 75 metres of water? Can I call a friend?
We did get a great sail in between the lulls and some more great sail changes including a quick change from the Light Weight Spinnaker to the Medium Weight Spinnaker. A tasty little gybe in there too. Our mission is to try and make the next tidal gate at the Alderney race.
