Over the last 36 hours, we have made our best average speeds and miles from the race start. We have also had to put in a few reefs and a headsail changes as the wind has built as we have come more east. The crew have been working Qingdao like clockwork with the daily checks and routines being carried out. The galley is now a place full ofhot food and lots of it for the crew to keep them warm and fully fuelled with the yacht being cleaned twice a day. This is no easy task as we are hard on the wind and just getting from your bunk up onto deck is a job in itself.
We may not finish in the top half of the fleet this time, but that was always the risk with our tactic for Scoring Gate points and sailing the shortest course to Cape Town.
But the crew are still working hard to get us into Cape Town as early as possible for a few days rest before the next big leg and the Southern Ocean that lies before them.
