I’m excited to be starting the race to the Southern Ocean, I think there has been a lot of very solid racing up until this point and the boats have proved themselves so I think everyone is looking forward to seeing what they can do in the big following swells and tackling the Southern Ocean for the first time. My crew are excited about it, there’s a little bit of apprehension but that’s normal for any leg. Everyone will see conditions they haven’t seen before but we’ve had a lot of training and experience so far so I think we are as prepared as we can be.
We’re really happy with our current leaderboard position. We based our plan on continuous improvement with a top 6 finish in the first leg and a podium position this time. It is very tight but going forward we are looking to get a place on the podium. We know how competitive the teams are and how fast the racing is. We know it’s going to be hard - we actually slacked off a little bit in the last race - it cost us third place losing six miles in the last 12 hours. We’ve analysed that and hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and move forward in a positive manner.
