I’m feeling really good about this next race. I sailed the Southern Ocean in the last race so I am pretty confident and I know what to expect. The crew have had a full briefing so we are pretty confident and we are all looking forward to it.
We are of course a little disappointed that we aren’t a little higher up in the table, but I think what we will see is a different team winning each leg as that is how tight it is within the fleet. It’s anyone’s for the taking. This race has a Scoring Gate and an Ocean Sprint which offers some valuable extra points and can really help boost your place on the leaderboard. At this stage, the leaderboard doesn’t concern me too much, but the further we get into the race, the more points really start to count.
As a returning skipper to the race, the 68s were great boats, but the Clipper 70s are proving to be so much faster. The boats have already topped 30 knots on some of the legs so it will be very interesting to see how they will perform in the Southern Ocean.
