I’m excited about the next race but have a little bit of trepidation. It has the potential to be a tough leg tough in an exciting kind of way - we haven’t seen these boats perform in these types of conditions and we’re all hoping they do what they say on the tin. We are going to have to keep the sail sizes low and keep the boat under control. If we get that right we should be in for a fast ride. Looking at the weather forecast, it looks like we’ve got a gentle ease into it with some light weather, which brings with it its own difficulties, getting down round the Cape in light winds can be problematic so it starts very tactically heavy and then we get very sailing heavy as the leg goes on.
We are at the very early stages of this race, there are many more to go but being in the podium does pile on the pressure but we obviously want to do well and will be packing torpedoes to fire at Henri Lloyd! I think it’s going to be a tale of two halves getting down and south and in the position where the strong winds should be - the second half being riding those waves and seeing how we can actually see the boats performing this race is a new experience for everyone - the crew are new, the boats are new – none of us have taken these boats into these kind of conditions before. Bring it on!
