Hello again,

Canaries, done. For me that’s Race 1 of Race 2 done and dusted. This race to Punta del Este is such a whopper at over 5000 miles that I find myself separating it into smaller races to make it easier to comprehend as well as more relevant when looking at how we are doing against our competitors.

Speaking of competitors we are still being closely raced by Dare to Lead, Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam and Qingdao. This close proximity of other boats really is keeping the crew focussed with their heads fully in the game.

For now it’s on towards Cape Verde and the Scoring Gate, the race is far from over yet and I’m keen to see how Jeronimo’s between the islands technique works out for him and his team.

Life on board is good with all the crew getting stuck in, on our three watch system the same people do the same duties everyday which at first sounds terrible but actually works very well because people get better at their duties. For example, I quote Mary here: ‘our downwind mac and cheese is much better than our upwind mac and cheese of Race 1’ which I cannot disagree with since I didn’t even know we had had mac and cheese on Race 1.

Log of the day: ‘ watch change – Afshin and Luke discuss leotards at the helm’

Until tomorrow,
