Our stopover in Cape Town was all too short, although, it was long enough to get lots of maintenance done on Black Betty. We saw more friends, and fellow crew leave us in Cape Town and new joiners arrived. Our crew manifest has dropped from 22 to 16, which, whilst making it much easier to live below decks, also makes the work rate on deck much higher, especially when we have several down with the green monster.

The start was a blustery affair and we chose to carry a full main and staysail to the windward mark and then hoisted our Yankee 2 for the downwind and reach. It served us well. We heard of the collision between Punta Del Este and Visit Sanya, China, which is everyone's nightmare but can happen on a start line in gusty conditions.

Our first challenge is to round the Cape. After this we go in search of a westerly breeze that will take us swiftly SE down the shortest route to Fremantle.

All the best for now,

Mark, Dan and the rest of the WTC Logistics Leg 3 Crew
