For the first time in the race’s history Swiss Sailing has sponsored a team and has promised to make sure it’s a fun adventure.
Switzerland has a long tradition with famous and successful sailors who have participated in regattas like the Whitbread Round the World Race (Pierre Fehlmann) or the Vendée Globe (Dominique Wavre and Bernhard Stamm).
As a Team Sponsor Switzerland hopes to alter the current image of sailing. Circumnavigations are adventurous, exciting and an unforgettable experience. Everybody can sail and experience the thrill of mastering mother nature’s strength. Everybody can do a circumnavigation, even under competition conditions. And sailing is fun!
Swiss Sailing exercises the traditional services of a federation and has more than 21,500 members at affiliated clubs that it partners with on a range of leading projects. These include supporting young sailors (Youth America’s Cup), developing new sailing technology in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne EPFL (Hydros. ch), implementing new Olympic sailing classes (Nacra17) or helping to promote sailing for people new to the sport.
Team Switzerland hopes that every crew member will have a unique experience and come to remember their turn on Switzerland with a smile in the future. It will be looking forward to celebrating the 75th anniversary of the foundation of its federation in 2014.
Switzerland is a tourist destination – all year round. Switzerland will also carry the logo of Mercy Ships, raising awareness for the hospital ship charity which provides free surgery and medical care to people in need around the world.
