Race 12 - Day 15
Crew Diary - New York, USA to Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland
05 July
Over 10 months on a boat and nearly a circumnavigation
under my belt and I still get a little queasy when heeled over during mother
watch. I've been pretty lucky in that when I’m on mother the wind seems to die and I have a nice flat playing field, or
we're under spinnaker and then its not too bad either. I was on
mother yesterday with the lovely Pippa, and all was well and flat, not much
wind so racing wise we were all a little anxious but then suddenly
Kappow! Back on our ear again at 45 degrees. Thank goodness I’d already
made the bread and dinner because I just couldn’t function in the galley at
that angle and unfortunately had to let Pip serve without me. So after a nice
long sleep I woke up and we were once again at a reasonable angle, ready to
serve brekkie.
The wind had come and gone again. This
would be the pattern for the next 12 hrs.
Hooray for us though, all this light stuff and plenty
of time hanging around Madeira on Leg 1 means we are actually quite good in
light winds so we've been playing catch up today. Early this morning we
had Garmin on our horizon floating about like us, they disappeared off in a
different direction when the wind did fill in but according to the scheds we are gaining. Lets Get, Garmin!
And even if we don't what a great race Da Nang-Viet
Nam have had. We are nobodies worry but very occasionally we do manage to
surprise people and pull something out the bag. Hopefully this will be
another leg like it. So Thank you to whoever made THAT decision to
extend the race... if you hadn't we wouldn’t be able to play catch up.
A big thumbs up from me :)
Looking forward to Derry-Londonderry and all its
shenanigans, especially seeing my folks and my sister Fraiza. And
also for all the cuddles and fun with a boy.
Love and light
Lara xxxx
