Hi there! Worst case happened, I have to write my blog just after legendary blogger Jenni “The Blog” Hall. Ultimate pressure is up. :-)
At the moment we are drifting outside the Mersey, waiting for the race start tomorrow morning. Our race from Derry down to Liverpool we just finished a few hours ago, 3 boats behind us, that results in a 8th place. Not very amazing, but the spirit on board is currently dominated by completing our long journey around the world. Ok, we have a 20 miles sprint left up the Mersey river, but the circumnavigation is complete and we feel that.
For all of us a special feeling, on one hand we're proud of what we achieved, on the other hand many of us are not sure how the next days will feel. At the moment everyone is happy to go back to civilization, showers, fresh food, connectivity with the world. But I'm sure for many of us it's just a matter of time until we miss the living on the boat, the common challenge we're facing, the nature and the sailing action; and of course the meeting up with friends on other boats during the stopovers.
Some of us have smoother ways back to reality, I will get hit by the bus quite hard – I'll be off for one week and then I'll be back at the office. I have sailed all my life and it was always my dream to do ocean racing. With some of the experience that Clipper has given me, I plan to do Yacht Master Ocean in Winter and I'm also already planning on further race participations. Most likely I'll be part of a crew on a Fastnet Race and the Sydney Hobart Race next year – I hope those are not the only ones. However, going back to the office with having further plans is much nicer and more motivating than just going back to earn money. Still earning money is key, because sailing is the most expensive way to travel uncomfortably and I need to invest a bit more to live my hobby. Swimming would have been cheaper – just sayin'.
Also I'll continue with my plastic pollution campaign, support me on social media or my website www.theraceofmylife.com, every click helps! Thank you and see you there!
