Dear diary,

Today started off well. We went on watch with a view of the Tasmanian hills in the distance, saw some jumping Tuna, saw some jumping dolphins and enjoyed the sun. Not too hot, not too cold. I was even inspired to construct a nice ‘long tether’ for Loretta the Flying Pig. Loretta joined us at Christmas and now oinks out important moments of the watch. First, the all important five minute to helm change warning and after some celebratory oinks when a successful helm change has occurred. She must be respected at all times.

Then the day started to take a bit of a turn. Hugues popped his head up and told us Punta del Este were only 16nm away. That’s 16nm away and 48 hours ahead of us. Still, Jeronimo radioed in to have a chat with Guy and dad and I were allowed to have a quick chat. It was lovely to speak to him, although I had to try not to swear at him when he said he’d keep the beers cold for us for our arrival at Airlie Beach. About half an hour after that, they crossed our stern. The sun was setting, the seabirds were flying back to land and the Tasmanian hills remained in the distance. Still, I wonder about what science fiction novel we are in, in which we are both in the same place at the same time, but two days separate us in time.

Loretta oinked and it was time for me to helm before watch change.

Yours in hope for fairer winds,

Cecilia
