Easter sunrise over Japan

It’s a beautiful sunrise as we sail past the west coast of Japan, with a clear sky and great visibility, if a little short on wind.

Entering day six of sailing with only the occasional glimpse of a Clipper yacht, the fleet has come together for the Mandatory Gates, and we find ourselves with five jockeying for the position around us. With race competitiveness heightened by visible competition we have powered through three sail changes in the 3am to 7am watch alone.

Well, so much for the cold of Leg 6 as the crew has broken out shorts, for those that can find them. Sweat has replaced waves as the principal source of getting wet, and everyone is wet! Fickle weather.

Spirits are high as we polish off a fat stack of Easter pancakes and all the hard work is forgotten for a moment.

Happy Easter from CV30 and Washington, DC
