After racing around the world as skipper of Derry-Londonderry, Mark Light will oversee the Clipper 13-14 Race from a different perspective in his new role as Deputy Race Director.

“I feel I’m settling into the role well,” explains Mark, who began his new role in October.

“It’s a huge job with lots of responsibility and I have come into it at a very exciting time. I’ve been welcomed and supported by the whole team and I relish the many challenges that lie ahead.”

The Clipper 13-14 Race starts next summer with the brand new fleet of twelve 70-foot yachts debuting in the 40,000-mile ocean race.

“The single biggest challenge I see will be getting our new fleet of twelve Clipper 70s delivered, commissioned, sea trialed and ready for racing.

“At Clipper Ventures we have a team with an abundance of skills, knowledge and expertise in this area. I know we are all looking forward to seeing the brand new fleet lining up for the race start in 2013.

“I’m personally very excited to see the new Clipper 70s in action. The boats look great in the water and will be anything up to six per cent quicker in certain conditions,” continues Mark.

“Lots of people are looking forward to the first few sea trials and gradually assessing the boat’s performances. This is a very exciting time for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.”
