Irish skipper Sean McCarter is savouring the opportunity of taking part in the Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race after following ocean races since the age of ten.

“I’ve followed every Whitbread, Volvo Ocean Race, Vendee Globe and Clipper Race since the age of ten and I’ve always dreamt of racing around the world,” explains the 31-year-old.

“The Clipper Race is exceptional as all twelve boats are identical which will make for extremely close racing.”

An avid sailor since a young age Sean was introduced to the sport by his father and soon competed in as many race as possible.

“After my father took me to a local yacht club, I began to race in Toppers and immediately became hooked!”

Sean will guide his crew through some of the most challenging sailing conditions possible to face as they compete in the 40,000-mile marathon.

“Sailing-wise, I’m really looking forward to experiencing the endless surfing in the Southern Ocean. While on a personal note, to arrive in Ireland so near to the finishing the race will be hugely emotional.”

The Mallorca-based yachtsman has been selected as one of twelve skippers to mould a group of amateur sailors into a ocean racing team ready to take on Mother Nature during the world’s longest yacht race.
