Update regarding Qingdao

04 May 2024

A crew member on board CV27 Qingdao requires medical assessment on shore after becoming unwell during the fleet’s motor to the Race 11 Start Line.

At approximately 0600 UTC on 4 May, the Race Office was made aware that crew member Timothy Talbot, on board CV27 Qingdao, had become unwell and needs medical care.

The crew member’s emergency contact has been notified and all other crew on board are safe and well.

On liaison with the Clipper Race’s remote medical support company (MSOS) it has been recommended that Timothy receives an assessment at the nearest medical centre as soon as is possible. Therefore,CV27 Qingdao diverted to Port Angeles. An ambulance is transferring Timothy to a local hospital and the yacht has now recommenced its transit to the Start Line.

The Clipper Race Office remains in close contact with Qingdao and thanks Philip and Henry for their support and assistance.

From a racing perspective, it is expected that Qingdao will catch up on time to the planned 1700UTC Le Mans Start. If this is not the case, the Le Mans Start will be postponed until all eleven teams are at the Start Line.

Further updates will be posted on clipperroundtheworld.com.
