Hello,

We’re on our way home, well what feels like home I suppose it will be the only port this race that we race from and back to. Well I hope it is the only port that we do that. It’s been a full night starting with the preparation of the kite to hoist while heading up wind which is always good fun making sure we don’t lose any of the kite to the sea. As we approached the mark Punta del Este was only 1000m in front of us and Zhuhai only a mile or so behind, so it had to go perfectly. As we rounded the mark the main was eased and positions assumed for the kite hoist and boom up it went seamlessly then down with the Yankee and away we went. We managed to take Punta del Este down the inside which felt great, but we all know that 200nm lead means nothing at all. Then Zhuhai was heading the wrong direction and it turns out they had passed inside of the mark so were going back to re-round the mark.

One gybe later we were approaching the next mark again alongside Punta del Este, it’s a good thing we like them, and the kites were dropped almost simultaneously and up on the mark we headed and just like 40 miles earlier when Zhuhai had been inside the mark Punta del Este found themselves inside the mark. Even after heading back for the mark they have been hot on our heels and are only a mile or so away.

Now we should be going downwind on the way home but it seems the wind gods have decided to screw us and we are still upwind, hopefully only for another 24 hours or so until these monsoon winds breakthrough from the north and power us on down to the top of Luzon once again.

Until tomorrow,

Seumas
