Blog two, Day 4 of this race already! The past four days have been intense on the navigation front. Between starting the race in less than 100metres visibility, to navigating through the night in the most eerie, white out scenario I have ever sailed in. In the open ocean, this would be of little concern. However, in an area notorious for traffic from the large fishing fleets and commercial vessels, this becomes a complex task. Not dissimilar to blindfolding someone and guiding them through an obstacle course, placing large engine noises close to their head occasionally for added effect.

The sailing has been very changing, upwind, downwind, light wind and lots of wind. This has meant the crew have had a good time getting back in the groove before we hit this big mama ocean.

Temperatures have increased as we get closer to the Kuroshio current on the east of Japan, which is very welcomed. The team are taking this time to get into the watch system and prepare mentally for the great challenge that lies ahead of us: crossing the largest body of water on the planet.

Sending love to the team at home,

Laura, Dan, Meredith and UNICEF team
