What a busy couple of days it has been. After the kite mare mentioned in the previous blog, we decided to go one better and got caught out by a squall while flying our recently repaired Code 3. Turns out, trying to persuade the Code 3 to be a huge flag in 40+ kts of wind proved to be a challenge, and unfortunately the Code 3 didn’t survive in one piece.

The Code 3 dragged us sideways at 6kts for what felt like hours (but was probably only 10 minutes) while we tried to convince it to hide behind the main sail out of the wind. Our recent repair proved to be a weak point. The sail split into from the clue to the head. Unsurprising this made it much easier to get down. Since then, we had enjoyed our first Roaring Forties sleigh ride surfing down the swell in 45kts of winds hearing the occasional shout from the helm as the boats speed record is topped time after time. Spirits are high. Happy Thanksgiving.
