Matched ocean racing

The twelve Clipper 70s which will circumnavigate the globe during the Clipper 13-14 Race make up the largest matched fleet of ocean racing yachts.

One huge advantage of a matched fleet is that the emphasis falls upon the crew and how the individuals bond as an ocean racing team.

A great example of how close racing during the Clipper Race can be was demonstrated in the Ocean Sprint during the marathon trek to Qingdao from Singapore during the Clipper 11-12 Race.

Singapore pipped De Lage Landen to victory in the Ocean Sprint during Race 8, bettering the Dutch entry’s time by just 14 minutes. The Ocean Sprint spanned a distance, which took Singapore 28 hours, 20 minutes and 54 seconds to cover, and shows the remarkable competitiveness between the Clipper Race yachts.

The Clipper 13-14 Race promises to be just as competitive with the debut of the twelve brand new 70-foot ocean racers.
