In her best result yet of fifth place, Vicky Ellis, skipper of Switzerland, said: "The crew have been amazing. It has been very tough as human beings, and they have responded in a very impressive way.

"We were very prepared for the storms beforehand, which helped as they were then able to get back racing after we got through it quicker too without any damage to our sails or the yacht. Our plan of sailing safely and consistently has really paid off, and we had a great start and finish too which has given us a best result yet. Everyone has really grown and they were very brave through the bad weather so I am immensely proud of them.”

Skipper Pete Stirling described Jamaica Get All Right's Leg 3 experience. "We didnt have a good start out of Cape Town as we went too far south, but we had a good Ocean Sprint and were second fastest and we have gone up four places in the last three to four days so we are really happy. Sometimes it is more satisfying to finish lower down but having climbed the leader board.

“During the storm, we got all the sails down so we could heave to, and we had 120 knot gusting winds. The crew has gone through it now so they know what to expect. It has been very tough so I am very impressed, and the new Clipper 70 has also really proved itself in the conditions. We are in a good position as we were second into Rio and it is only Race 4, so we are very positive.”
