Calling all adventurers!

14 November 2014

Calling anyone 18 years or older, from all walks of life, colour, creed and gender. No experience necessary; just a spirit of adventure!

Don’t miss the opportunity to meet our Crew Recruitment Manager, Della Parsons, as she tours the UK, searching for the next generation of adventurers to take on the ultimate endurance challenge that is the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

Currently in the north of England, having completed her first tour dates in Sheffield and Hull earlier this week, Della will be in Leeds tomorrow, Saturday 14 November, meeting potential crew members who want to join our elite group of racers for the 2015-16 edition and beyond.

Anyone who meets Della during her tour will automatically be entered into a draw for a place on board a week’s Level 1 training, worth £1085; providing a taste of the race, and a potential saving in progressing onto the full race experience.

Della says: “It has been a great start to the tour, I have met a great mix of men and women from a variety of different backgrounds and it has been really interesting to discover people’s different reasons for wanting to push themselves to try a new challenge and learning how to sail.

“Everyone I have met has asked many questions and been inspired by the enthusiasm of former crew who have voluntarily come along to share their race experience.”

In the 2013-14 edition, 670 crew, including 34% women, from over 40 nationalities, took part in the race from countries as widespread as Russia, Serbia, Norway, Peru, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Kenya, Hungary, China and Singapore, in addition to the UK, forging cultural understanding and awareness to work together and build lifelong friendships.

More than 230 different professions were represented, from nurses to GP’s, pilots to farmers, film directors to surfing instructors, head teachers to students, and the whole gamut of occupations in between.

The Clipper Race is open to anyone over the age of 18 at the time the race starts, but there is no upper age limit. In the last edition of the race the youngest crew member, Sam Gundry, was a mere 18 years and 12 days old when he raced across the Atlantic. The oldest female, Gil Sharpe, took part in four legs of the race, including the Southern Ocean and the classic Sydney to Hobart, at the age of 74!

Della will continue to scour the UK over the next month with stops in Cardiff, Bristol, London, Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester.

The 2015-16 race is now more than 70 per cent full but crew places are still available on most legs, and we are now recruiting for the 2017-18 race too.
