Get on board our open boats in Seattle today

22 April 2016

The Clipper Race fleet has arrived at Bell Harbor Marina, Seattle, WA having completed the Seattle Pacific Challenge from Qingdao, China.

Join us at today at Pier 66 and step on board the Clipper 70 yachts to receive a free personal yacht tour from crew members who have competed in this unique race. The free tours will run daily until Tuesday 26 April from 1100 – 1900.

Our twelve Clipper 70s make up the world’s largest fleet of matched design ocean racing yachts. Specially manufactured to take on Mother Nature’s toughest conditions as they circumnavigate the globe, these yachts are built for speed, not comfort.

Stepping on board today, local Seattleite Mariah said: "It’s been great to get on board and learn more about the race and meet the crew, everyone has accents which is cool. It’s been really educational and fun to learn the facts about the race into Seattle, like that at times the yachts were closer to the International Space Station than they were land. Down below is like ant tunnels, it must be tough living in such a small space with so many people. I don’t think I could do it because I’m a little high maintenance it was interesting to see what the crew through!"

No previous sailing experience is needed to take part as we provide full training, and up to 40 per cent of our crew members have never sailed before they sign up for the race. The only qualifications participants need is a good level of fitness, to be aged 18 or over and possess a thirst for adventure into the unknown.

The Seattle Race Village also features talks about the Clipper Race experience directly from the people who have taken part during Q&A sessions with our adventurous crew and race Skippers.

From the iconic Seattle Urban Trek to making a guest appearance at the home stadium of Seattle Baseball team the Mariners, Safeco Field, there are plenty of activities guaranteed to get crew and visitors alike into the spirit of on-the-water adventure.
