The Clipper Race is a diverse family of adventurers that’s for sure, and no two races are ever the same as our crew, made up of people from all walks of life with a common desire to achieve something remarkable, bring their unique personalities to each edition.

With nine months to go, more than 500 crew members, representing 39 nationalities, are already preparing to race the world’s oceans in the 2017-18 edition.

It is the first time that Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Mauritius have been represented on the race, with other nationalities including: American, Argentinian, Australian, Austrian, Belgian, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Chinese, Chilean, Czech, Danish, French, German, Greek, Hong Kongese, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, South Korean, Swiss, , Latvian, , Mexican, Manxman, Dutch, New Zealander, Norwegian, Peruvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, South African, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.

The race is open to anyone over the age of 18 at the time it starts, but there is no upper age limit, so as well as a variety of different backgrounds, our intrepid crew are made up of all ages. The oldest crew member so far is 74!

Whilst around 40 per cent of those who sign up have never sailed before ahead of starting the races’ comprehensive four week training programme, all bring with them a wealth of skills and occupations. Crew signed up so far include students, electricians, geologists, builders, nurses, farmers, vets, au pairs, dentists, pilots, yoga teachers, train drivers, an art dealer, photographers, ecologists, engineers, a rowing coach, carpenters, skydiver, lawyers, air traffic controllers – just to name a few!

Whilst it’s not too late to sign up if you are looking for a new challenge in 2017-18, you’ll need to hurry as places are filling up fast, now 85 per cent full.

Crew members can choose to participate in one or more legs or the full round the world race which takes eleven months to complete on board our fleet of twelve Clipper 70s. Leg 1 is sold out, with a waiting list, but there is still availability on the below legs.
