Derry~Londonderry~ Doire moves to top of Race Standings

27 November 2015

Following a very successful race for Derry~Londonderry~Doire in the Wardan Whip from Cape Town, South Africa to Albany, Australia, Skipper Daniel Smith and his crew have moved to the top of the Overall Race Standings for the Clipper 2015-16 Race.

Derry~Londonderry~Doire finished second in Race 3 behind LMAX Exchange and also collected two points at the Scoring Gate and another two for recording the fastest time through the Ocean Sprint. Now with 36 points, it has a four point lead over LMAX Exchange which has moved up to second, with GREAT Britain now in third on 30 points overall.

Coincidentally, rising to first and second on the leaderboard coincides with the birthdays of Derry~Londonderry~Doire Skipper Daniel Smith today (27 November) and LMAX Exchange Skipper Olivier Cardin on 28 November. Along with Fleet Rigger, Greg North, who also celebrates his birthday in Albany, the pair were presented with gifts from the race's Official Wine Partner Stormhoek.

Skipper Daniel, who was also given a Derry City football jersey by his Team Sponsor Derry City and Strabane District Council, says: “Moving to the top of the leaderboard is the best birthday present I could possibly receive. But I couldn’t have done it without the team. They’ve worked very hard and it is well deserved.”
