Clipper Race crew often refer to the ‘Clipper Race family’ that comes from being a part of the race, but for some, the family connections are there even before training begins.

Within days of making the decision to take time out of work, Michael Fahy from Reading, Berkshire, had sent off for the Clipper Race brochure. It just happened that, at the same time, his cousin Ann Marie Davis from Chicago, Illinois, was travelling through the UK and had stopped in and that is where their journey began.

Ann Marie and Michael, have been competing against each other during the first two Legs of the Clipper 2017-18 Race and are currently one-all in the family honour stakes.

Both competitive but highly supportive of each other, they shared their unique but combined experiences of the race whilst in Cape Town. Check out their story

Ann Marie will be re-joining HotelPlanner.com in New York to race in the final leg, to Derry-Londonderry then back to Liverpool on 28th July. She is still trying to persuade Michael to join her but, in the meantime, they both shared their experiences of sailing from Liverpool to Cape Town via Punta del Este, with their wider Clipper Race family at the Post Leg 2 crew meet up that took place yesterday, at the Little Ship Club in London.
