China’s Sailing City of Qingdao has maintained a longstanding legacy with the Clipper Race since its debut year of working together in 2005. Now on the ninth edition and 18th year of partnership as a team entry and Host Port, Clipper Ventures is reflecting on some of the key pillars of the relationship and the Clipper 2023-24 Race so far.

Dan Bodey

Dan Bodey is Skipper of Team Qingdao for Leg 8 of the Clipper 2025-26 Race, from Washington, DC to Portsmouth, UK.

Dan was Race Crew then First Mate on Team UNICEF in the Clipper 2019-20 Race before going on to skipper Team UNICEF around the world on the Clipper 2023-24 Race, achieving a fourth-place overall finish.

Since then, Dan has remained involved with Clipper Ventures, leading teams in the Knox-Johnston Cup and Fastnet campaign, and as a Training Skipper, bringing extensive race and leadership experience to the role.

First Mate

Amy Smith

Somerset, UK

Amy began sailing at eleven and has logged over 22,000 nautical miles, including an Atlantic crossing. A former Chief Instructor at an RYA school, she brings strong coaching skills to her role as Clipper Race First Mate, where she’s excited to embrace offshore racing and develop leadership towards skippering a global circumnavigation.
