The start of Leg 2 of the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Cape Town, South Africa, will be delayed by one day to Saturday 12 October at 1400 local/ 1700 UTC. This follows the unprecedented delay in the doldrums on Leg 1 which has pushed back the arrival window by approximately 4 days, with the last boat currently not expected into Marina da Gloria until Wednesday 9 October.

“By delaying the start by one day it will give the skippers, crew and shore team more time to prepare the yachts for Leg 2 to Cape Town,” said Race Director Justin Taylor. “The global schedule to hit key dates for prevailing weather in different parts of the world does not leave us a lot of room to manoeuvre, but an extra 24 hours in Rio is manageable without putting excessive pressure on the South African Leg and stopover.”

The estimated arrival times into Rio de Janeiro are currently as follows:

5 October – PM: Jamaica Get All Right, PSP Logistics, Qingdao

6 October – PM: OneDLL, Derry~Londonderry~Doire, Henri Lloyd, Old Pulteney, GREAT Britain

7 October – PM: Team Garmin

8 October:           Switzerland, Mission Performance

9 October:           Invest Africa
