Team Garmin to resume racing

Team Garmin will resume racing this afternoon following the successful tuning of her rig after remedial work in Cape Town.

Following a test sail last night, Team Garmin had returned to Cape Town yesterday evening. Due to failing light, they were unable to complete all the necessary adjustments to the rig. The yacht was requested to return to port in Cape Town as a precaution to check an irregularity discovered with its rig just after Monday's Race 4 start.

Following a dye test, the issue was confirmed to be relatively minor. Once the yacht is ready, Team Garmin will motor out to the position where they suspended racing to restart Leg 3 to Albany, Western Australia.

Race Director Justin Taylor commented: “Safety is our highest priority and although the problem proved to be relatively minor it was prudent to check it out thoroughly before proceeding into the Southern Ocean.”

As per the Sailing Instructions, this delay does not qualify for redress.
