Clipper Events lines up for start of Round the Island Race

01 July 2017

It’s an early start today for sister company Clipper Events and some 1342 fellow competitors, as they prepare to cross the start line in what is dubbed as one of the world’s most famous yacht races – the Round the Island Race (RTI) 2017.

The full fleet of twelve Clipper 70-foot and two Clipper 68-foot ocean racing yachts have been mustered by Clipper Events to take part in the 86th RTI for a range of clients and competition is stiff in the Clipper Yacht Class in a bid for the Vaphio Cup.

The Clipper 70s have been charted by private clients, JP Morgan Asset Management and Barclays Bank. Barclays Bank aims to raise £12000 in aid of Clipper Events and the Clipper Race’s Charity Partner, Unicef during its race campaign. The Clipper 68s have also been chartered privately by Clipper Events clients and alumni Clipper Round the World Yacht Race crew spanning five race editions dating back to the 2005-06 race.

Setting off from Cowes on the Isle of Wight and racing west on the 50 nautical mile course around the island, alumni Clipper Race crew member Lucy Nunn, a 39 year-old Solicitor from London said:

“I'm really looking forward to taking part in the RTI race, particularly sailing again with some of my former crew and in a race with so many other boats to compete against with professional and non-professional crews on board - most of the legs I did on the Clipper Race were much longer so we didn't actually get to see much of the other teams! The busy course will certainly make for some exhilarating racing today.”

Want to get out on the water? Clipper Events provides a variety of unique opportunities for team building and racing to novice and experienced sailors alike.

From corporate hospitality, industry regattas to iconic races, there is something for everyone on board the Clipper Race fleet of 68 and 70 foot ocean racers, with full training provided.
