Meet the new Clipper Race Crew Recruitment Director

24 June 2018

The Clipper Race is delighted to announce that Della Parsons will be its new Crew Recruitment Director from next month. Della has worked in the Crew Recruitment team for almost four years and will succeed David Cusworth in the role as he leaves the Clipper Race to move to Denmark with his young family.

Della has a long history with the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race as she was a crew member for the 2009-10 edition of the race. She originally signed up for one leg of the race but despite having never sailed before, she changed her mind and joined for the full circumnavigation. Following this ten month adventure she re-joined for 11/12 edition as onboard Media Crew - a role which suited her perfectly as along with her new sailing experience she had spent her career with the BBC in Bristol, London and then as Production Editor in the North East.

Della has always been a self-confessed adrenaline junkie, with a love for ice climbing, jumping out of planes and skiing. She has tried everything from hang-gliding over Rio de Janeiro, shark cage-diving off the coast of South Africa and ski-mountaineering in the Alps and also has a passion for wildlife and conservation.

Working in the Crew Recruitment Team, Della inspires others to step outside their comfort zone and achieve something remarkable. She says the Clipper Race was a hugely challenging, positive and inspiring experience. It was a huge learning curve that changed her life, and is the perfect person to encourage more people into sailing through the Clipper Race.

Following Della’s promotion, Clipper Ventures is now recruiting for a new Crew Recruitment Manager. The key objective of the Recruitment team is to find, interview and secure over 700 crew members for each edition of the Clipper Race and the Recruitment Manager is a key part of this. The successful candidate will be joining a fast growing, exciting and high energy department within the Clipper Ventures team. Clipper Ventures is looking for someone with a flexible attitude, great team ethic, sound organisational skills, the ability to work alone and stay motivated.
